Pumpkins and Princesses: Why God’s Thoughts of You Are Worth Listening To

Have you ever been discouraged by someone else’s words? Have you ever been bombarded with so many ideas and opinions that you didn’t know which one to listen to?

It’s tough to know which voice is right. Should you listen to your parents? Your friends? The media?

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve looked at some of the truths that God has given us to combat Satan’s lies. We’ve also picked up some practical ways to share the message of true worth with other girls.

This week, for the final part of this series, I want to focus on why God’s thoughts of us are worth listening to.

There have been times when I was worried about what others were thinking about me. I had to shift my focus and remember that what God thought of me was more important than what people thought.

There are some really good reasons why we should listen to God. Let’s dive right in!

1. God Created Us

“Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands. May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.” Psalm 119: 73,74

I love that verse! God created each and every one of us and wants us to find our hope and worth in Him.

As our creator, He knows what we need and what will be best for us. Before we were even born, He knew what we would do and who we would become.

With all of the magazines, movies, and music telling us how we should look in order to be worth anything, we can get discouraged easily. After all, how can we ever measure up to the standard of beauty that our culture has set for us?

It doesn’t matter if you’re short, tall, or skinny. God created you to be unique and beautiful in your own way. I heard a quote earlier this year that I absolutely love.

“Seeing the beauty in others doesn’t lessen your own.” ~unknown

Sure, there are tons of girls who are gorgeous. You don’t have to compare yourself to them. The same God that created them, created you too.

2. God Loves Us

God cared enough to create each of us. Not only that, but He loves us more than anyone even could!

Because the Lord truly loves and cares for us, what He says matters the most.

Some people might tell you that you’re not thin enough, but God says that you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

Some may tell you that you need more make-up and accessories to bring out your real beauty; God says that it’s what’s inside that counts (1 Peter 3:3,4).

All throughout the Bible, God tells us how much He loves us and how much we are worth to Him. Don’t let what other people think bring you down. Remember what God says in His word.

3. God Has a Purpose For Your Life

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,” Declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.”

Sometimes it can feel like we are going nowhere. We have people telling us, from various directions, what we should do with our lives.

It’s good to listen to the people who are close to you. However, always remember that God has a plan and a purpose for your life. When you get down and discouraged, go back to God’s word for direction.

He never makes you go through life alone and, because He knows what’s best for you, He is definitely worth listening to.

There will always be voices telling you different things. It’s up to you to listen to the one that matters the most.

God speaks to us through the Bible and through other people. When you hear people give you their ideas and opinions, always make sure they line up with scripture. That is the foundation for life.

That concludes this November series, “Pumpkins and Princesses: Discovering Who You Are in Christ”.

I hope you enjoyed reading these 3 parts and learned as much as I did as I wrote them!
