Pumpkins and Princesses: Don’t Keep It to Yourself

There she is. No one notices her. No one really knows that anything’s wrong. But she does.

In her search of worth, she has done the unimaginable. She has poured herself into things that will only destroy her. Does anyone care? That’s her big question.

There are girls like this everywhere. Chances are you know someone who has gone through this.

In the first part of this series, I addressed 3 common lies and replaced them with God’s truth.

This time, I’d like to share with you 3 practical ways to share God’s truth with other girls who are struggling with identity and worth.

These will not only help someone else, but will help you keep your eyes focused on Christ as well!

1. Share Your Own Testimony

Sharing your own story is, by far, one of the best ways to share God’s truth with someone. It’s easy to think that your own story isn’t all that interesting or powerful, but God has done wonders in all of us and He can use your experiences to make a difference.

1 Peter 3:15 says, “But in your hearts revere Christ as LORD. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”

I once heard a young woman tell her own story of how she placed her worth in her looks and body type. She even became a top model, but it only left her to feel empty. Later, she realized she had placed her identity in the wrong things. She decided that she would now place her worth and value in Christ.

Making that decision was best decision she ever made! Hearing her talk about her own experiences made it much more personal and real to me.

People aren’t always open to hearing a bunch of Bible verses and reasons for them to follow God. Sometimes, you need to let your life do the talking and be ready to share why you find your worth in Jesus.

If you’re willing to share your testimony, God will open up the opportunities!

2. Offer to do a Bible Study

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15

God’s love is shown throughout the entire Bible. There are countless places that talk about worth and identity. If you know of a girl who might be interested in doing a Bible study with you, ask her!

She might say “no”. She might say “maybe”. But she also might say “yes”! Even if she does reject, she will still know that you cared enough to offer. Who knows? She might even take you up on it later!

Not everyone will be ready to jump into a Bible study. If that is the case, offer prayer or write an encouraging note with a couple of Bible verses. Even small gestures of kindness can change a life.

3. Invite Them to a Fun Event

I recently attended an online event for young women on the topic of beauty and worth. It was a ton of fun learning about God’s design for lasting worth with so many other girls!

Inviting a girl to a fun event like that (whether it’s a webinar that you watch together or an in-person event) can strengthen both of you and help you to focus on God’s truths.

Check out some local churches for any programs they may have going on or contact someone who may know. Planning a girls day to have some fun and learn more about identity in Christ is a great way to share the reasons for your faith.

Whether you know a girl who is struggling with identity, isn’t a Christian, or could just use some encouragement, these ideas have helped me to grow in my own faith as well as talk about why I find my worth in Christ.

Don’t forget to come again next week for the final part in this series!

Challenge: Will you take one of these ideas and do it this week?

I’d love to hear your idea and story in the comment section below!
